Ironwood (Olneya Testota),
carving is a unique form of art from the Sonoran Desert of Southern
Arizona and Northern Mexico. It is carved from desert Ironwood,
a very dense and heavy wood.
Years
of exposure in the hot, dry desert cause the natural resins to
collect, condense and cure, thus transforming the wood into very
dense and heavy Ironwood. Ironwood is so dense and heavy that
it will not even float in water.
