This first collaboration of these two authors is a true marvel. Character development is superb and the plot never lets down. The bulk of the story takes place in New York City's American Museum of Natural History where some type of beast is on the loose. The initial savagery takes place right before the opening of a new exhibit which is expected to bring additional fame and fortune to the museum. The museum top dogs care to ignore the problem treating it as unrelated, isolated incidents and push forward with the opening. The mayhem continues and culminates during the opening itself.

For those not interested in history museums, the story may seem dry at times but it still gives you an eye opening insight into what takes place inside a museum.

One comment about the movie of the same name.... what a total disappointment. The fact that they chose to eliminate the character of FBI Pendergast and move the museum to Chicago is totally inexcusable. Those two items is what made the book as great as it was. Once you eliminate them, you are left with a lack luster, boring, and ill cast movie.
