A Painted Houseby John Grisham |

ISBN: 044023722X Not a typical Grisham book, A Painted House is an amazing book that keeps the reader waiting for more and more. The story is set set in Arkansas in 1952 on the cotton farms. The Chandler's, a typical family of the area need to find help for the cotton harvest. They end up with a group of Mexicans (who come up north every year for this purpose) and a family from the hills, commonly referred to as the Hill People. Grisham puts the reader right in the middle of the hardships of life as a cotton farmer and the general despair surrounding it. The plot of the book becomes very intense as trouble occurs between Hill people, the Mexicans, and some folks from the town. It's a totally charming story and has somewhat of "Grapes of Wrath" feel to it. |
